Katy successfully supplied some serious pressure tactics (i.e., she told me that she and Mike would be camping), so I'll be joining you guys out in the pasture.
Andrew is in like Butch at a baseball game. Andrew would also like to note that in his dream last night, he had the pleasure of playing in a championship softball game that was the underdog until he realized he could bring in ringers, and suddenly the team was coached by butch, who made the lineup with megan batting leadoff, me (nicknamed "empty success" for some reason), batting 3rd, and butch "the longest long-ball" cleanup at #4. i only wish my darn alarm clock hadn't gone off right before the game started, but we all know how it would have turned out.
Katy and Mike K (per pressure message above) will be camping out. We have a tent that we'll try to ship out by plane, but may share with Jess. We'll probably come in Friday night (late) and take off on Sunday, so count us in like gin for Friday and Saturday nights.
off the chain girrrrrl (& butch)! I am doing all I can to be in attendance and of course to camp out in the pasture! woo hooo. Tent, sleeping bags, and cooler are all awaiting being loaded in the car. I will depart WPB Thursday; hoping Quaid will join me (not sure at all). I am awaiting a confirmation for my pets to be cared for (are dogs welcome? what other dogs might be there?) I would not want to bring if it might hinder a good time. so excited for you both. how creative and what fun, what fun, what fun! love abigail

It's true! Butch! and Megan are getting hitched, and we'd love you to celebrate with us!
WHERE: 4731 North Waterside Drive, Lanexa, VA
WHEN: August 29th, 2009 at 5:30 p.m., with reception immediately afterward.
WHAT: A bluegrass wedding, complete with bluegrass music and great barbecue. Wear comfortable shoes and come ready to dance!
1. Where is Lanexa, Virginia? A: Lanexa, Virginia is a small, rural town in New Kent County, VA, and is situated about 20 minutes west of Williamsburg and 30 minutes east of Richmond. George and Martha Washington were married in New Kent County.
2. That's great about George and Martha, but really -- WHY are you getting married there? A: Lanexa is the home of Hal and Kathy Hoffman, Butch!'s parents. They have graciously agreed to let us use their pasture as the site of our wedding, which means we don't have to rent a hall and therefore have more money to spend on barbecue and beer.
3. Won't it be hot? What should I wear? A: It probably won't be that hot, but it's possible. The wedding will be held in the evening. Evening temperatures in late August in Virginia average in the mid-70's. See our post about attire.
4. Why aren't you registered for gifts? A: We decided not to register for gifts because Megan is joining the Air Force in October. We do not yet know where she will be stationed after she completes her training, which will happen early next year. Because we will likely be moving two or three times within the next six to nine months, we are currently in the process of getting rid of a substantial part of our belongings. We felt it didn't make sense to acquire any more things at the moment.
5. It says on this blog that you're having a bluegrass wedding. What does that mean? A: A bluegrass wedding means a good bluegrass band, lots of beer, some excellent pulled pork, and fun. We chose a bluegrass theme because we want our guests to relax, dance, have fun, and experience Virginia as it should be.
6. Can I wear coveralls and a straw hat to your wedding? A: If you really want to, yes.
7. What else is there to do in Lanexa? A: We will cover this in a separate post, but Lanexa is very close to colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens, both of which entertained Megan as a child. King's Dominion amusement park and Water Country USA are also nearby. Lanexa is also close to the Williamsburg Winery and the New Kent Winery, both of which offer excellent, low-cost tours and tastings. Finally, historic Richmond is only 30 minutes away, and tours of the very beautiful capitol building are free.
8. Are you having bridesmaids or groomsmen? A: To keep the expense and the 'serious' factor of the wedding as low as possible, we opted not to have a wedding party.
9. How did you two meet? A: We both attended Georgetown University Law Center. We graduated last May.
10. Oh God, two lawyers getting married! Your evenings must be as exciting as watching paint dry. A: We get that a lot.
YES Matt and Katie will be camping Friday and Saturday. I am hoping we have dibs on one of moms tents. Will be a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteThis is the most fun wedding idea I have ever heard! I (Jim) will be camping FO DEF! I am going tent shopping tonight.
